As the official Partner for World Book Day®, Rubies will proudly continue supporting the charity in the run up to the biggest school-aged dress-up occasion of the year.

Being the world’s largest designer, manufacturer and producer of fancy-dress costumes and accessories, Rubies understands it’s responsibility to nurture young minds, something which is synonymous with World Book Day. Hand-in-hand with this is the companies’ strategies and awareness raising regarding creating a more environmentally sustainable society through the re-wearing, adaption and donation of its costumes. Rubies hopes to lead by example and make an impression of sharing and sustainability on children that will last a lifetime.

The World Book Day charity changes lives through a love of books and reading, encouraging children, families and schools to be inspired to read for enjoyment. The fun of reading is one of World Book Day’s 6 tips for encouraging reading for pleasure. Little ones are understanding more about the power of reading through the fun and joy of dressing up.

A report on the impact of World Book Day by Nielsen Book found that for children aged 8 to 11, the most frequent responses to the question about what they liked most about the day included dressing up, new books and reading. As well as finding dressing up fun, children’s comments indicated that it had benefits for their imagination and could even inspire wider reading.

From the anticipation of waiting “all year round” to dress up (and indeed, to see others’ costumes) to feeling encouraged and confident to “try reading things [they] had never wanted to or tried reading before”, World Book Day gives children the chance to discover and develop as readers. The social aspects of the day play a significant role in its success.

Representing all of the most loved licensed characters associated with the huge annual event including Harry Potter, The Beano, Horrid Henry, Amelia Fang, DC Comics, Marvel, Rubies costumes play a key role in bringing to life the magic of reading, especially on World Book Day. By becoming their favourite characters, children can experience the wonder of entering a world of fantasy and are encouraged to explore their boundless imaginations. Rubies will be responsible for representing the charity and their brand, as the official licensee across the dress-up industry.

“Dressing up is a popular way to encourage children to enjoy reading, to swap reading recommendations and to celebrate their reading choices. The fun of finding a costume and the excitement of sharing it with friends is all part of the World Book Day experience for many children. Dressing up can make the day feel really special – and lead to more reading for fun, all year round.” Cassie Chadderton, Chief Executive, World Book Day.

Mike O’Connell, Managing Director, Rubies, “Being the official dress-up partners of World Book Day again is such an exciting opportunity for us as a business. From the new content we’ve developed to exciting new dress-up and accessories, we can’t wait to spread the joy and celebrate the benefits of reading. As a business, our objectives include championing creativity and reading for pleasure in little ones, which marries perfectly with what World Book Day do. Acting as role models to our youngest target audience, children, we endeavor to allow children to become the characters they love from their favourite books.”

World Book Day is on the 2nd March 2023. Rubies costumes are available at their website, and also at trusted e-retailers like Amazon.
