Golden Bear will sponsor and take part in the event in support of Alder Hey Children’s Charity
Golden Bear Toys is set to sponsor and take part in the Alder Hey Children’s Charity Mascot Grand National later this month in memory of its founder John Hales.
On Friday 15 May, the Golden Bear team will step onto the world-famous Aintree Racecourse for the light-hearted race, with its mascot joining Alder Hey’s own Oli the Elephant to channel its inner Red Rum on the iconic course.
Barry Hughes, Managing Director, Golden Bear Toys, said: “Horses were John’s passion, and of course another of his great passions was bringing joy to children through toys. It feels incredibly fitting to celebrate his legacy in a way that reflects both – as well as his energy and generosity. Supporting Alder Hey Children’s Charity and helping to raise vital funds will make a real difference to children and their families.”
Swapping thoroughbreds for oversized costumes, the Mascot Grand National promises plenty of laughs, a few hurdles and some determined (if slightly wobbly) racing, as participants compete to reach the finish line.
Aintree holds special significance for Golden Bear. It is where John Hales’ legendary horse, Neptune Collonges, secured a historic Grand National victory in 2012. A well-known figure in the racing world, John was also a longstanding supporter of Alder Hey, regularly visiting the hospital with Neptune Collonges to spend time with children and families on the wards.
Those wishing to support Golden Bear’s efforts can donate via its JustGiving page.
Alder Hey Children’s Charity funds life-saving equipment and facilities, while also helping to create the special ‘Alder Hey magic’ – the little extras that make a hospital stay more positive for children and their families.
