Saturday’s Fence Club Wall Members’ Walk was successfully completed by 11 brave walkers who all enjoyed a beautifully sunny 25k walk across 16 London Bridges in aid of the Fence Club’s charity.
Seeing areas of London from a very different perspective and learning some history along the way, the route took them from Putney Bridge to Rotherhithe and a very well-deserved drink at The Angel Pub at the end. They had to navigate their way through a protest march at Westminster Bridge and deal with some pretty warm temperatures. Even so, the camaraderie was top drawer and supported by some family and friends who headed to London to cheer the group on.
“I saw some of London I’ve not seen in a way before, wonderful mixture of old and new architecture, with a super group of friends and family from the trade”
Team leader Keith Elmer, who organised the route with fellow Wall Member Michael Angel, said “Michael and I were thrilled at the spirit and determination of all walkers in the group. Perhaps this now nails the thought that the retired Fence Club members are too old to do their bit for the Charity and ‘the Children’!”
The Fence Club’s Vice-Chair Jacqeline Taylor-Foo added “I saw some of London I’ve not seen in a way before, wonderful mixture of old and new architecture, with a super group of friends and family from the trade. It was a great but very tiring challenge but what we have raised so far as a group will be a life changing amount for some of the children we support.”
The intrepid Fence Club Wall members who took part, led by Michael Angel and Keith Elmer, also included Graham Canning, Micky Berg, Richard and Margaret Highfield, Steve and Maria Reardon as well as Steve and Debbie Wilks.
It’s not too late to sponsor and congratulate them on this impressive achievement. Please reference “Wall Walk” and add a good luck message for the fabulous Walkers.
