Disney is revisiting its 2016 animated hit with a live-action remake starring Catherine Laga’aia and returning Dwayne Johnson
Disney has given fans their first look at the live-action remake of Moana, which first hit screens as an animated feature in 2016.
The trailer showcases Catherine Laga’aia as the eponymous hero, alongside a cast of supporting characters. Dwayne Johnson is conspicuous by his absence from the teaser, but is set to reprise his role as the demigod Maui, whom he voiced in the original.
Moana is set to hit cinemas next summer, barely a decade since its animated original. It is the shortest period between between the release of the animation and a subsequent live-action remake since Disney began revisiting its cartoon classics in the 2010s.
Moana lands in cinemas 10 July 2026.
