Retail buyer Denise Moore takes us behind the scenes at the leading UK attraction’s four toy retail destinations – and the criteria toys have to meet to make it to the park
Home to the world’s first and the UK’s only Peppa Pig World, Paultons Park caters to more than just fans of the nation’s favourite curly-tailed family. Retail buyer Denise Moore tells us about life behind the scenes at the leading Hampshire theme park. She discusses balancing licensed and unlicensed toys across the site’s varied retail areas, her product sourcing criteria, and why Toy Fair is an exhausting but unmissable opportunity to find the best new toys.
“When I view new products, I usually go with my gut. My first thought is whether the item would be popular with our guests, and whether it would sit with our current line-up,” Denise said.
“I tend to make a “wish list” of absolutely everything I like. Then I go through it again, looking at retail prices and margins, which narrows it down. If I’m looking at a new licensed range, for example, I try to select three to six lines covering various price points, so there’s something for everyone.”
