Exclusive Interview: Toys4you Director Usman Ali Ahmed

Toys4you Director Usman Ali Ahmed discusses opening a second store, how suppliers helped support the move, and more

Following the successful launch of a second Toys4you store in Birmingham, Director Usman Ali Ahmed discussed expansion, community engagement, supplier partnerships, and the growing importance of independent toy retail in today’s market in the July issue of TnP.

“Opening a second store, in Birmingham’s Northfield Shopping Centre, was a carefully considered decision rather than a leap of faith,” he said. “While the retail environment remains challenging, we’ve seen continued demand for specialist, collectible toy retailing and, importantly, strong support from local communities that value an independent, customer-focused shopping experience.

“A number of suppliers and partners have played an important role in supporting the opening of the new store, and it’s particularly valuable to work with businesses that understand the realities of independent retail and are willing to go beyond a transactional relationship,” he added.

“The most meaningful support from suppliers has been practical rather than theoretical: reliable supply, strong communication, help with ranging decisions, and a genuine understanding of the challenges faced by independent retailers. That kind of partnership is what we look for.”
