Learning Resources teams with Three Nines Children’s Charity

The organisations developed a Calm & Care pack designed to help kids in the immediate aftermath of emergency incidents

Learning Resources has partnered with Three Nines Children’s Charity alongside BMT, a technical engineering and management consultancy, to support the development and rollout of a new Calm & Care pack designed to help children in the immediate aftermath of emergency incidents.

The collaboration brings together Three Nines’ frontline expertise supporting children affected by crime and emergency situations and Learning Resources’ experience in creating practical, evidenceled tools that help children feel calm, reassured and supported during moments of acute distress.

Simon Tomlinson, MD, Learning Resources, said: “Providing something simple and familiar in those moments – a small distraction that offers comfort and reassurance – can make a real difference. Through this partnership with Three Nines Children’s Charity, we’re supporting a resource that helps children feel calmer in the moment, while also connecting them and their families to further support once the immediate situation has passed.”

The Calm & Care Pack has been designed as an earlyintervention resource for emergency responders, helping to provide immediate comfort and distraction in the critical first moments following an incident. It offers simple, childappropriate tools to help create a sense of calm and comfort in those moments, while also signposting children and families to further emotional support services for the future. The packs will be piloted from October 2027 across a range of emergency services, including West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Yorkshire Ambulance Service and Essex Police.

Anne Campbell-Gunn, CEO, Three Nines Children’s Charity, added: “Emergency responders regularly encounter children who are frightened, confused or uncertain, sometimes having to wait on their own while a situation unfolds around them. The Calm & Care pack is designed to give responders a practical way to offer comfort at the scene.”

The Calm & Care Pack initiative will continue to be developed in collaboration with frontline professionals, with the aim of ensuring the kits are safe, sensitive and scalable across emergency services settings.
