Malcolm ‘Tiger’ Naish, Toys n Playthings’ Chairman, reports on the success of yet another Fence Club annual Golf Day.

The annual Fence Club’s ‘Teddy Simmons’ golf day is always eagerly awaited by the industry’s golfing fraternity, and so it was on Thursday the 11 June that 60 plus gathered at Oakdale golf course to enjoy the delights of the club’s challenging course.
Sadly, the weather decided to turn against us, and we were greeted by continuous rain throughout the day. Ever hardy, we trudged round with umbrellas unfurled with driving rain spurring us on. My umbrella managed to blow inside out on the 5th hole and was promptly consigned to the rubbish bin. Luckily Mr Roger Dyson – that Welsh golfing wizard – had a spare umbrella that saved me from a complete soaking.
“The Fence Club dinner presentation is stuff of legends and this year was no exception! With fine master Jon Gregory of Intertoy in fine form (pardon the pun), through the raffle and the auction – most professionally run by Steve Wells – just over £25,000 was raised on the night”

Despite the weather some excellent scores were posted that saw David Bramford of Character Options come in with 40 points to win the individual Stableford cup and also the longest drive. Following closely and winning the Ladies’ trophy was Dawn Lavalette of Wow! Stuffon 39 points. Dawn’s four-ball, which included Fence Club Chair and Jumbo Group’s Jacqueline Taylor-Foo, and Wow! Stuff’s Graham Gardiner and Andy Tarrant, also won the team prize.

I was delighted to see the Toys ‘n’ Playthings lot at the evening’s auction drew the biggest amount of bids, which went to Character Options.
Along with ourselves and all the other wonderful members that had offered a variety of mouth-watering events/items for the auction, the 2026 Fence Club golf day was once again a huge success.
A big thank you to Simon Anslow, (Organisers of the Harrogate Christmas & Gift Fair and the Harrogate Nursery Show), for all his hard work in putting the event together, and to Graham Gardiner for checking the score cards.
