Science Museum celebrates retail experience award

Science Museum wins Paramount Consumer Products & Experiences UK’s Retail Initiative of the Year for Star Trek 60 pop-up shop

The Science Museum has been awarded Retail Initiative of the Year at the Paramount Consumer Products & Experiences UK Summit 2026.
The gong recognises the highly successful Star Trek 60 Pop-Up Shop and anniversary retail programme, which celebrates six decades of one of the world’s most influential science fiction franchises.

Working closely with Paramount Consumer Products & Experiences, the Science Museum developed a distinctive range of exclusive anniversary merchandise available through the pop-up shop and online. The collection included limited-edition collectible coins, anniversary gift sets, exclusive clothing, premium drinkware, accessories and model spacecraft, alongside a range of products created specifically to commemorate the milestone anniversary.

Davide de Matteis, Head of Retail at the Science Museum, said: “The Star Trek 60 Pop-Up Shop has been a fantastic opportunity to bring together retail, storytelling and fandom in a way that felt authentic to both the franchise and the Science Museum. Our team has worked hard to create a destination that celebrates Star Trek’s enduring cultural impact while offering visitors exclusive products and memorable experiences. This award is a testament to the creativity, passion and collaboration of our retail, licensing and visitor experience teams, as well as our strong partnership with Paramount.”

The award acknowledges the museum’s innovative approach to fan engagement, combining exclusive merchandise, immersive retail experiences and a wider programme of public events to mark the 60th anniversary of Star Trek. The dedicated pop-up shop formed part of the Science Museum’s significant Star Trek at 60 programme, which brought together a free museum trail of screen-used props and costumes from the franchise, two special Star Trek Lates, a world-first season screening all thirteen feature films, including the Kelvin Timeline films in IMAX format.

The Star Trek at 60 programme explored the franchise’s longstanding relationship with science, technology and innovation, themes that align closely with the Science Museum’s mission to inspire future generations through science and engineering.

Dr Glyn Morgan, Head of Collections and Principal Curator at the Science Museum, said: “Star Trek has invited audiences to be curious explorers for decades, a mission we know something about at the Science Museum. Star Trek as a cultural phenomenon has played a real role in changing the world of STEM, from inspiring technical innovations to encouraging a generation of modern astronauts.”
