The retailer partnered with Wings International Jamboree in Berkshire to host free Meccano construction activities for young people
This week, thousands of Scouts and Guides from around the world came together at the Wings International Jamboree in Berkshire to put their engineering skills to the test as they took part in hands-on Meccano building sessions, thanks to a donation from The Entertainer.
Working together in teams, youngsters made use of tens of thousands of Meccano pieces to build more than 150 models, including miniature cars, motorcycles and buildings, while also having the freedom to experiment and create their own designs. The activities encouraged creativity, practical engineering, problem-solving and teamwork skills, inspiring young people to learn through play.
Lisa Hollidge, Group Chief Commercial Officer, Meccano and The Entertainer, said: “We’re proud to partner with WINGS to offer thousands of young people the opportunity to build, experiment and create with Meccano. Construction play is a brilliant way to encourage curiosity, problem-solving and teamwork, and it was fantastic to see participants sharing ideas and bringing their designs to life.
“The sessions come at an exciting time for Meccano as we launch a new range of products created in partnership with globally recognised names including Aston Martin, Aramco and Ducati. We hope the activities at WINGS inspired the next generation of builders, makers and creators to discover the exciting world of engineering and construction.”
The Wings International Jamboree welcomed 4,000 Scouts and Guides from 17 countries to Windsor Great Park in Berkshire, bringing young people together for a week of adventure, cultural exchange and international friendship; all while encouraging the development of new skills and personal growth in line with organisations’ missions.
Wings International Jamboree Camp Lead, Stuart Ford, added: “We are thrilled to have joined forces with The Entertainer and Meccano to bring such an inspiring educational activity into our Wings programme. Events like Wings unite young people from around the world to have fun, to forge new friendships, and to develop new skills.
“By incorporating Meccano construction play into our camp, we have been able to promote the benefits of creative play and inventive engineering to thousands of young Scouts and Guides.”
