Asmodee games pop up at Welcome Break this summer

Memory Making Break Points pop-ups will be at select services for families to enjoy screen-free breaks, as 86 per cent of parents say board games bring families closer

Asmodee is teaming with Welcome Break to offer tabletop games for families stopping at select services this summer, as the games company’s latest findings point to a nation seeking screen-free experiences.

Families across the nation are embracing an ‘analogue entertainment revival’ that create lasting memories, according to new research commissioned by Asmodee. The findings paint a heartwarming picture of shifting priorities in British households as nearly a third (29 per cent) of families now intentionally schedule screen-free nights into the calendar and over two-fifths (41 per cent) of families say they are playing more screen-free games than they were just a year ago.

An overwhelming 86 per cent of parents think playing board games brings families closer together and 85 per cent say games are a great way to unite different generations. A third of parents (32 per cent) want to reduce their children’s screen time, while a quarter (24 per cent) admit to feeling guilty about relying on tablets to keep the peace during long car journeys.

Asmodee and Welcome Break have partnered to create Memory Making Break Points for families looking to embrace the analogue revival. Guests stopping at selected Welcome Break service areas throughout the summer holidays can take a break from their journey to play Asmodee tabletop games together at the limited-time pop-ups. Participating locationsinclude South Mimms, Hopwood Park, Oxford, Rotherham and Warwick North.

The first 10 families to attend each pop-up will be able to collect a free game to make the visit even sweeter. Those inspired to purchase Asmodee games to play in the back of the car on the remainder of their summer travels can head to WHSmiths at each site.

Roger Martin, Marketing Director at Asmodee, said: “These findings reflect something we see and hear from families every day. People genuinely want to connect, and tabletop games have always been brilliant at creating those moments, whether you’re spending a night in at home, taking a break on a long motorway drive or playing together on holiday.

“At Asmodee, we’re all about creating lasting memories, which is why we’re so proud to launch the Memory Making Break Points, creating natural pause points where families can reconnect.”
